Murabe Community Gardeners Open Their Savings Box

Updated: Mar 13

The Murabe community gardeners - mostly women opened their savings box and found Le46 Million in there. This is money that they had saved over twelve-months period from the sale of vegetables they harvested from their gardens. The resources for the community garden were provided to the gardeners by us at the SGF Sierra Leone as part of our Pillar 2 of promoting gender equality and sustainable livelihood. Through the Savings Box, participants have learned to save money for the raining day and for other emergencies. They can now comfortably pay their children's school costs, medical bills, and other related family expenses. They also have the opportunity to loan from the Savings Box without interest. The program has strengthened women in the community by eliminating strict financial hardship and reinstating their dignity.
